What We Do

The Northern Society for Domestic Peace (NSDP) provides a safe and supportive environment in the Bulkley Valley Lakes District, in many different capacities.

Our programs are:

Passage Transition House 24-hour Emergency Shelter for women and children experiencing domestic violence, abuse and/or crises in their lives.

Children Who Witness Abuse counselling for children who have witnessed domestic violence or serious family conflict.

Sexual Abuse Intervention and Support Program counselling for children, youth and families.

Stopping the Violence: One-to-one counselling for women who have experienced violence and/or abuse in relationships. Workshops and support groups may also be available.

Stopping the Violence Outreach: Emotional and practical support for women in or leaving abusive relationships. 

Specialized Victim Assistance Program provides support for victims (all ages) of violent crimes: sexual assault, domestic abuse, and criminal harassment. The program participants may or may not have reported their victimization to the RCMP, and may or may not be involved in the criminal justice system.

RCMP Based Victim Assistance Program provides support for victims of all crimes as well as the sudden loss of a loved one. This program is unique in that it is stationed in the Smithers RCMP detachment, and works closely with the RCMP.

New Hazelton Community Based Victim Assistance Program provides support to victims of all crimes, including domestic assault, sexual assault and criminal harassment.

Domestic Peace Program: One-to-one counselling and support services for men who are concerned about their behaviour in the relationships they share with their partners and/or children. Counselling is also available for issues surrounding such things as separation and divorce, past/present violence and abuse and creating healthier and more respectful relationships. Support groups and couple therapy may also be available.

Pregnancy Outreach Program offers professional, emotional, practical and peer supports for pregnant and new families with babies to one year old.

Bulkley Valley Critical Incident Response Team (BV CIRT) is a team of trained volunteers that provide support to groups in the Bulkley Valley who may suffer psychological or emotional distress following a critical incident.

Youth Forensic Support Services counselling for teens that have become involved in the criminal justice system.

The Strengthening Families Program is a powerful program for positive family interactions and skills development that involves the whole family. 

Third Stage Housing for women and their children who are beginning their life anew, on their own, with limited resources.

Caring Companions Program provides companionship and practical support to individuals residing at the Bulkley Lodge.

Community Response Network provides information to those who want to report abuse or neglect of seniors and/or vulnerable adults.
